Sussex consists of two counties – East Sussex and West Sussex.
It has something for everyone – rolling countryside, clean beaches
and vibrant cities.
For countryside, there are the South
Downs and the
High Weald, both running from west to east across the
county.
For beaches, there are resorts such as Eastbourne,
Bognor Regis, Littlehampton and Worthing.
Then for city as well as Blue Flag award winning beaches
there’s
Brighton & Hove.
It was officially granted city status in 2000. Up until
that time, Chichester had
been the only city, where the cathedral has a separate
bell tower, and the harbour is an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty.
Also in Sussex are the historic towns of Hastings
and Battle, famous for being the site of the Norman
Invasion by William the Conqueror in 1066.
Bosham is said to be the place where King Canute tried
to hold back the tide. It is also close to the Roman
villa at Fishbourne.
